City Closures Planned for Juneteenth
Spokane City Hall will close on Juneteenth, June 19, to honor the federal holiday recognizing the emancipation of enslaved Black Americans. Spokane Municipal Court, Community Justice Services, and all branches of the Spokane Public Library will also be closed on this day. While on-street parking will be free, all parking rules, including time limits, will still apply. Garbage, recycling, and food waste services will continue as usual, ensuring residents receive essential waste management. Spokane 311 will provide customer service via phone and online on Juneteenth.
Attractions at Riverfront Park, such as the Looff Carrousel and Numerica SkyRide, will be open, allowing residents to celebrate the holiday. The Spokane City Council is set to meet on June 23 for legislative discussions, with meetings streamed live. This closure reflects Spokane's commitment to recognizing significant historical events and promoting community awareness.
