DUI Driver Seriously Injures Two People in Two Separate Collisions

Cautia McArthur, 19, was arrested for causing two serious collisions in Spokane on June 8, 2025, injuring a pedestrian and another driver. The first crash occurred at Maxwell Ave. and Washington St. , where a pedestrian was struck while trying to prevent McArthur's escape, resulting in life-threatening injuries. Witnesses reported that McArthur fled the scene before colliding with another vehicle at Monroe St.

and Alice Ave. , sending both vehicles into several parked cars. Spokane Police are investigating the incidents, which highlight a concerning rise in impaired driving cases in the city. Despite a decline in Washington State, Spokane has seen an upward trend in such incidents over the last decade. The police department has responded by assigning two full-time DUI enforcement officers, including one funded by the Washington Traffic Safety Commission.
