DUI Driver Seriously Injures Two People in Two Separate Collisions

Spokane, WALocal News

On June 8, 2025, Cautia McArthur, 19, was arrested after injuring two individuals in separate collisions in Spokane within a span of five minutes. The initial incident occurred when McArthur struck a pedestrian, who was attempting to stop her from fleeing the scene of a prior minor crash, leading to life-threatening injuries. Shortly thereafter, she collided with another vehicle, causing extensive damage and injuring an adult female driver. Video evidence from a nearby business indicated McArthur was driving at a high rate of speed before the second crash. The Spokane Police Major Crimes Unit responded due to the serious nature of the injuries inflicted.

McArthur was charged with two counts of vehicular assault and one count of hit and run with injury, all felonies. Spokane has experienced an increase in impaired driving incidents, contrasting with a statewide decline in 2024, prompting police to enhance DUI enforcement efforts. The Washington Traffic Safety Commission reports ongoing concerns regarding impaired driving fatalities in the region.
