DUI Driver Seriously Injures Two People in Two Separate Collisions

Cautia McArthur, 19, faces multiple felony charges after causing two serious crashes in Spokane on Sunday night. At 7:43 PM, police responded to a report of a pedestrian collision at Maxwell Ave. and Washington St. , where McArthur fled after hitting a pedestrian attempting to stop her. The pedestrian, who suffered life-threatening injuries, was a passenger in the vehicle involved in the initial minor crash.

Just two minutes later, McArthur ran a stop sign at Monroe St. and Alice Ave. , colliding with another vehicle and causing extensive damage to several parked cars. The second victim also sustained serious injuries from the crash. Spokane Police have observed a troubling rise in impaired driving incidents, while the state of Washington experienced a decline in 2024.

The department currently employs two full-time DUI enforcement officers to address this issue. Citizens are encouraged to report suspected impaired drivers by calling 911.
