DUI Driver Seriously Injures Two People in Two Separate Collisions

Cautia McArthur, 19, was charged with two counts of Vehicular Assault and one count of Hit and Run with Injury after seriously injuring two people in separate crashes on June 8, 2025. The first incident involved a pedestrian who was struck after attempting to stop McArthur from fleeing the scene, resulting in life-threatening injuries. Witnesses described McArthur's vehicle as an older minivan, which she drove at high speeds during subsequent collisions. The second crash occurred when she ran a stop sign and collided with another vehicle, sending both into parked cars. Spokane Police's Major Crimes Unit processed the scene due to the severity of the injuries involved.

Impaired driving fatalities in Spokane have been trending upward, contrasting with a statewide decline in 2024. The Spokane Police Department has responded by assigning two DUI enforcement officers, one funded by the Washington Traffic Safety Commission. Residents are urged to report suspected impaired drivers by calling 911.
