City Provides Annual Report on Drinking Water Quality

Spokane, WALocal News

The City of Spokane's 2024 annual drinking water quality report confirms compliance with all drinking water standards set by state and federal authorities. Although low-level PFAS detections occurred at three well sites, they remain below the state’s action levels, with one well slightly exceeding the revised EPA standard of four parts per trillion, but compliant on a rolling average. The City continues to conduct follow-up testing at sites with detections while implementing more sensitive testing methodologies. Spokane has taken proactive steps by joining a lawsuit against PFAS manufacturers, supporting investigations into potential contamination sources, and enhancing its monitoring procedures. The City provides residents with water conservation resources through its Water Wise Spokane program, which includes an odd/even watering schedule aimed at minimizing waste during the peak irrigation season.

This ordinance is designed to protect water resources, maintain affordable rates, and support landscaping health. Spokane's water system consists of 1,000 miles of distribution lines and eight well stations that serve approximately 80,000 homes and businesses. The City can provide up to 150 million gallons of water daily, underscoring the importance of effective water management.
