City Provides Annual Report on Drinking Water Quality

Spokane, WALocal News

The City of Spokane's Water Department confirmed compliance with all state and federal drinking water standards in its 2024 annual report. The report highlighted low-level detections of PFAS chemicals at three well sites, with one well slightly exceeding the revised EPA standard of four parts per trillion. Marlene Feist, the Director of Public Works, reaffirmed the city's dedication to providing safe drinking water despite increasing environmental contaminants. Spokane has initiated legal action against manufacturers linked to PFAS contamination and is collaborating with local entities to investigate contamination sources. The city has also implemented updated testing procedures for these chemicals and actively monitors water quality.

In a bid to promote conservation, Spokane has enforced an odd/even watering schedule for residents and businesses. The city provides various rebates for water-efficient equipment to further support conservation efforts. Community members can access the complete water quality report online or request a mailed copy from the Water Department.
