On June 8, 2025, Cautia McArthur, 19, was charged with vehicular assault and hit-and-run after injuring two pedestrians in separate crashes in Spokane. Initially, she fled the scene of a minor collision and struck a pedestrian who was trying to stop her, resulting in life-threatening injuries. Two minutes later, McArthur caused another serious crash by running a stop sign, colliding with a vehicle and subsequently hitting parked cars. Surveillance footage indicated she was speeding before the second collision. Spokane Police Major Crimes Unit intervened due to the incidents' severity, and McArthur was treated for injuries before being booked into jail.

Spokane has seen a rise in impaired driving incidents, while Washington State overall reported a decrease in 2024. The Spokane Police Department employs two full-time DUI enforcement officers to combat this trend. Residents are urged to report suspected impaired drivers immediately by calling 911.
