City Provides Annual Report on Drinking Water Quality

Spokane, WALocal News

The City of Spokane's annual drinking water quality report confirms compliance with state and federal standards for 2024. Low-level detections of PFAS chemicals were found at three well locations, all below state action levels. One well's results slightly exceeded new EPA standards, but the average remained compliant. Director of Public Works, Marlene Feist, emphasized the city's commitment to safe drinking water as contaminants increase. Spokane has joined a lawsuit against PFAS manufacturers and is investigating potential contamination sources in collaboration with the Spokane Aquifer Joint Board.

The city has implemented updated testing and monitoring procedures for these chemicals. Residents can access the full water quality report online or request a hard copy by contacting the Water Department. Efforts to conserve water include a new ordinance mandating an odd/even watering schedule to reduce waste during peak seasons.
