City Provides Annual Report on Drinking Water Quality
The City of Spokane has released its 2024 annual report on drinking water quality, confirming compliance with all state and federal drinking water standards. The report indicates low-level PFAS detections at three well locations, though these remain below the state's action levels. The average PFAS level at one well was just under the new EPA standard of four parts per trillion, which will require compliance through rolling averages. Marlene Feist, the City’s Director of Public Works, stated that the city takes its responsibility for safe drinking water seriously. As part of its protective measures, Spokane has joined a lawsuit against manufacturers linked to PFAS contamination and is actively investigating potential sources.
The city also promotes water conservation through its Water Wise Spokane program, implementing an odd/even watering schedule to manage resources effectively. Residents can access the full Water Quality Report on the city's website or request a mailed copy by calling the Water Department. Spokane's water system includes 1,000 miles of distribution lines and serves approximately 80,000 homes and businesses.
