City Provides Annual Report on Drinking Water Quality

Spokane, WALocal News

Spokane's 2024 drinking water quality report shows the City met all state and federal standards. Low-level PFAS chemicals were detected at three well sites, but results remain below action levels. One well reported a test slightly above the revised EPA standard, although the average is just below the limit at four parts per trillion. The City implements updated testing and monitoring procedures for these contaminants, with ongoing follow-up testing at affected sites. Marlene Feist, the City's Director of Public Works, emphasized the importance of delivering safe drinking water in an increasingly contaminated environment.

The City has joined a lawsuit against PFAS manufacturers and is supporting investigations into contamination sources. Furthermore, the City encourages water conservation through its Water Wise Spokane program, promoting an odd/even watering schedule. Community members can obtain further information via the state Department of Health’s PFAS dashboard.
