DUI Driver Seriously Injures Two People in Two Separate Collisions

Spokane, WALocal News

On June 8, 2025, Cautia McArthur, 19, was charged with two counts of vehicular assault and one count of hit-and-run after causing two serious crashes in Spokane. The first incident involved her hitting a pedestrian, a passenger in the victim's car, who attempted to stop her from fleeing, resulting in life-threatening injuries. Witnesses identified her vehicle as an older minivan, which fled the scene. Just two minutes later, she ran a stop sign and collided with another vehicle, causing significant damage and injuries. Video evidence indicated McArthur was speeding before the second crash, impacting seven parked cars in the vicinity.

Both victims suffered severe injuries, prompting a response from the Spokane Police Major Crimes Unit. The rise in impaired driving fatalities in Spokane contrasts with a statewide decline in 2024, leading to the employment of two full-time DUI enforcement officers. Authorities urge the public to report suspected impaired drivers by calling 911.
