Mayor Brown Proposes Boost to Opioid Treatment, Navigation Services

Spokane Mayor Lisa Brown proposed a $730,000 investment from opioid settlement funds during the Gabriel’s Challenge community meeting to address the ongoing opioid crisis. The plan includes $300,000 for treating Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome at Maddie’s Place and $400,000 for an outdoor navigation program to assist individuals with opioid use disorder. Mayor Brown highlighted the importance of supporting community organizations working on the front lines of the crisis. Shaun Cross, President & CEO at Maddie’s Place, expressed gratitude for the city's recognition of the urgent need for specialized infant care. Spokane has allocated a total of $2,480,350 in opioid settlement funds to various initiatives, including $500,000 to enhance the Spokane Fire Department’s CARES Team.

The city also invested in case management services and expanded access to medication-assisted treatment. The funding aims to fill critical service gaps and improve outreach for those affected by opioid use disorder. This proposal reflects a broader commitment to addressing the public health crisis and ensuring sustainable healthcare solutions.
