City Provides Annual Report on Drinking Water Quality

Spokane, WALocal News

Spokane's annual drinking water quality report confirms compliance with all state and federal standards for 2024. Low-level PFAS chemicals were detected at three well locations, but results remained below state action levels. One well's test result was slightly above revised EPA standards; however, the four-quarter rolling average stands just below the limit of four parts per trillion. The City has implemented updated testing and monitoring procedures to address these contaminants. Marlene Feist, Director of Public Works, stressed the importance of providing safe drinking water as environmental contaminants rise.

The City has joined a lawsuit against PFAS manufacturers and supports investigations into contamination sources. Additionally, Spokane has launched water conservation initiatives, including an odd/even watering schedule to reduce waste. The Water Department offers rebates for water-efficient upgrades to assist community members in conserving resources.
