City Provides Annual Report on Drinking Water Quality
Spokane's annual drinking water quality report indicates full compliance with state and federal standards for 2024. The report reveals low-level detections of PFAS at three wells, with one well slightly exceeding the new EPA standard on a four-quarter rolling average. The City has taken proactive measures to enhance testing and monitoring of these contaminants. In response to growing environmental concerns, Spokane has joined a lawsuit against PFAS manufacturers and is collaborating with the Spokane Aquifer Joint Board to investigate contamination sources. The Water Department emphasizes its commitment to providing safe drinking water and encourages community members to access the water quality report.
The City also promotes water conservation through its Water Wise Spokane program, implementing an odd/even watering schedule for residents. Spokane's water system comprises 1,000 miles of distribution lines and serves about 80,000 homes and businesses. Daily, the City can supply up to 150 million gallons of water to the community.
