Flags Lowered for Representative Frank Chopp

Spokane Mayor Lisa Brown ordered flags at City facilities to be lowered to half-staff in remembrance of former Speaker of the House Frank Chopp, who passed away on March 22, 2025. Governor Bob Ferguson has also instructed that state and U. S. flags at all state agency facilities be lowered. Brown praised Chopp as Washington’s longest-serving Speaker, highlighting his dedication to housing and healthcare.

The memorial service for Chopp will occur on June 1 at 2 p. m. at Meydenbauer Center in Bellevue, where community members can pay their respects. Residents are encouraged to lower flags at their homes or businesses in his honor. Chopp's lengthy tenure and advocacy significantly shaped local policies regarding housing and healthcare in Washington.
