Flags Lowered for Representative Frank Chopp

Spokane, WALocal News

Spokane Mayor Lisa Brown has ordered flags at City facilities to be lowered to half-staff in remembrance of former Speaker of the House Frank Chopp. This move coincides with a directive from Governor Bob Ferguson for all state and U. S. flags to follow suit. Chopp, who served as Washington's longest-serving Speaker, passed away on March 22, 2025.

Mayor Brown described him as a longtime friend, emphasizing his dedication to housing and healthcare. A memorial service will be held on June 1 at 2 p. m. at the Meydenbauer Center in Bellevue, where Chopp’s contributions to Washington will be honored. The public is encouraged to participate by lowering flags at their homes and businesses.

This act of remembrance reflects the community's respect for Chopp’s legacy and commitment to public service. Lowering flags symbolizes unity and collective mourning for a significant figure in Washington politics.
