Mayor Brown Proposes Boost to Opioid Treatment, Navigation Services

Mayor Lisa Brown proposed a significant $730,000 investment in opioid treatment and wraparound services during a community meeting in Spokane. The proposal allocates $300,000 for Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome treatment at Maddie’s Place and $400,000 for an outdoor navigation program aimed at assisting individuals with opioid use disorder. Mayor Brown stated that this funding will enhance the vital work of community organizations combating the opioid crisis. Shaun Cross, President & CEO of Maddie’s Place, expressed appreciation for the city's acknowledgment of the urgent need for specialized care for infants affected by substance exposure. Spokane has previously allocated $2,480,350 from opioid settlement funds to various services, including case management and treatment access.

The city's commitment reflects a proactive approach to addressing the opioid epidemic's impact on vulnerable populations. This funding is crucial for sustaining essential healthcare solutions and expanding outreach efforts. The proposal demonstrates a holistic approach to tackling the multifaceted challenges posed by opioid addiction in the community.
