Mayor Brown Proposes Boost to Opioid Treatment, Navigation Services
Mayor Lisa Brown proposed a $730,000 investment in opioid treatment and support services during the latest Gabriel's Challenge community meeting. The plan allocates $300,000 for Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome treatment at Maddie’s Place, a recovery nursery for infants affected by prenatal substance exposure. Additionally, $30,000 will enhance mobile medication-assisted treatment outreach, and $400,000 will fund an outdoor navigation program for individuals facing opioid use disorder. Mayor Brown highlighted the proposal's aim to support community organizations on the front lines of the crisis. Shaun Cross, President & CEO of Maddie’s Place, expressed appreciation for the funding, emphasizing its role in sustaining specialized infant care.
The city's prior allocations include $2. 48 million for various opioid-related services, including case management and treatment access expansion. The proposal addresses urgent community needs and aims to fill critical service gaps. This initiative underscores Spokane's commitment to combating the opioid crisis effectively.
