Flags Lowered for Representative Frank Chopp
Spokane Mayor Lisa Brown has ordered flags at City facilities to be lowered to half-staff in remembrance of Frank Chopp, who served as Washington's longest-serving Speaker of the House until his death on March 22, 2025. Governor Bob Ferguson has similarly directed that state and U. S. flags be lowered at all state agency facilities. Brown, who described Chopp as a longtime friend, emphasized his dedication to housing and healthcare issues, noting that he will be greatly missed by many.
A memorial service for Chopp will take place on June 1 at 2 p. m. at the Meydenbauer Center in Bellevue, where community members can pay their respects. Residents are encouraged to lower flags at their homes and businesses as a sign of honor and remembrance. Chopp's legacy in the Washington State Legislature spanned decades, making significant impacts on various policies.
This tribute showcases the community's recognition of his contributions and the profound loss felt by many. Chopp's commitment to public service and advocacy for essential services will be remembered by both colleagues and constituents.
