Firefighters responded to a fire at Sky View Apartments in Spokane on May 22, 2025, after receiving multiple reports of black smoke. The fire was located in a unit undergoing renovation, which impacted upper-floor residents and filled the common hallway with smoke. Crews arrived within four minutes, managing to extinguish the fire quickly and assist two residents trapped by smoke. Both individuals were evaluated by AMR paramedics and reported to be in stable condition. Investigators determined the fire was accidental, caused by combustible materials on a stovetop.

Fire damage remained confined to the unit, with smoke affecting hallway walls, and no residents were displaced. Fire officials emphasized the importance of closing doors during fires to mitigate smoke spread, particularly in multi-family buildings.
