Firefighters extinguished a fire at the Sky View Apartments in Spokane at 12:48 p. m. on May 22, 2025. Residents reported thick black smoke from a unit undergoing renovations, with some unable to evacuate due to smoke in the common areas. Engine 1, Truck 1, and Truck 4 arrived within four minutes to confirm the situation and quickly gained access to the unit.

Two occupants required assistance to escape but were escorted to safety and found stable by paramedics, needing no medical treatment. The Spokane Fire Department determined the fire was accidental, caused by a stovetop igniting combustible materials. Fire damage remained confined to the area of origin, while smoke affected hallway walls. Fire officials highlighted the importance of closing doors during a fire to slow its growth, which helped prevent the flames from spreading. No residents were displaced, demonstrating effective fire suppression efforts.
