Apartment Fire Prompts Evacuation Assistance, No Injuries Reported

Firefighters extinguished a fire at Sky View Apartments in Spokane on May 22, 2025, after reports of black smoke. The fire was in a unit undergoing renovation and was quickly contained by Engine 1, Truck 1, and Truck 4, which arrived within four minutes. Two residents required assistance escaping due to heavy smoke in the common hallway. The accidental fire was caused by a stovetop ignited with combustible materials, but damage remained confined to the area of origin. Fortunately, no residents were displaced, and AMR paramedics evaluated the rescued individuals, who were found to be stable.

Fire officials emphasize the importance of closing doors during a fire to slow its growth and protect occupants. This incident highlights the need for fire safety awareness in multi-family buildings. Rapid response and effective fire suppression efforts prevented a much more dangerous situation.
