Apartment Fire Prompts Evacuation Assistance, No Injuries Reported

Spokane, WALocal News

Firefighters responded to a fire at the Sky View Apartments on West 5th Avenue at 12:48 p. m. yesterday, rescuing two individuals trapped by smoke. The fire originated in a unit undergoing renovations and was quickly extinguished by Engine 1, Truck 1, and Truck 4, who arrived within four minutes. An investigation revealed the fire was accidental, resulting from a stovetop being turned on with combustible materials nearby.

Fortunately, no residents were displaced, and the two rescued occupants were evaluated and found stable. Fire officials emphasized the importance of closing doors during a fire to slow its spread, particularly in multi-family buildings. The rapid response and suppression efforts prevented smoke from extending into the hallways, averting a more dangerous situation. Spokane Fire PIO Justin de Ruyter urged residents to remain vigilant about fire safety practices. This incident highlights the critical role of prompt emergency response in minimizing fire damage and ensuring resident safety.
