Apartment Fire Prompts Evacuation Assistance, No Injuries Reported

Spokane, WALocal News

Firefighters extinguished a fire at the Sky View Apartments in Spokane yesterday, rescuing two residents struggling to evacuate due to heavy smoke. Crews from Engine 1, Truck 1, and Truck 4 responded within four minutes after 911 calls reported black smoke from a main floor unit undergoing renovation. The fire resulted from a stovetop being turned on with combustible materials placed on it, causing an accidental blaze. Fortunately, no injuries occurred, and the fire damage was confined to the area of origin, although smoke affected multiple hallway walls. Fire officials emphasized the importance of closing doors during a fire to protect occupants and slow fire growth.

The rapid response allowed firefighters to prevent the flames from extending into shared hallways, averting a more dangerous situation. AMR paramedics evaluated the rescued individuals, who were found to be in stable condition. This incident serves as a reminder of fire safety protocols in multi-family buildings.
