Apartment Fire Prompts Evacuation Assistance, No Injuries Reported

Spokane, WALocal News

Spokane firefighters extinguished a fire at Sky View Apartments on May 22, 2025, after multiple 911 calls reported black smoke from a window. The fire broke out in a main-floor unit under renovation, leading to thick smoke that obstructed evacuation for some residents. Engine 1, Truck 1, and Truck 4 arrived within four minutes and confirmed visible smoke. Firefighters used air-breathing masks to assist two occupants to safety, both of whom were evaluated by AMR paramedics and found stable. The fire was ruled accidental, caused by a stovetop ignited with combustible materials.

Fire damage remained limited to the unit, preventing displacement of residents. This incident serves as a critical reminder for residents to close doors during fires to slow growth and protect themselves. Rapid response and effective suppression efforts played a key role in averting a more dangerous situation.
