Apartment Fire Prompts Evacuation Assistance, No Injuries Reported

Spokane, WALocal News

Firefighters quickly responded to a fire at the Sky View Apartments in Spokane at 12:48 p. m. on May 22, 2025. Reports of black smoke led to multiple 911 calls, revealing that the fire originated in a main floor unit undergoing renovation. Engine 1, Truck 1, and Truck 4 arrived within four minutes, confirming visible smoke and gaining access to extinguish the fire.

Two residents required assistance escaping due to heavy smoke, but both were evaluated by paramedics and found stable. An investigation determined the fire was accidental, sparked by a stovetop with combustible materials placed on top. Damage was confined to the unit, with smoke affecting hallway walls but no residents displaced. This incident underscores the importance of closing doors during a fire to slow growth and protect occupants. The rapid response and suppression efforts averted a potentially more dangerous situation.
