Apartment Fire Prompts Evacuation Assistance, No Injuries Reported

Spokane, WALocal News

Firefighters responded to reports of black smoke at the Sky View Apartments in Spokane on May 22, 2025, prompting an emergency dispatch. The fire, which occurred in a unit undergoing renovation, led to challenges for upper-floor residents attempting to evacuate due to smoke in the hallways. Engine 1, Truck 1, and Truck 4 arrived within four minutes and quickly extinguished the flames. Two occupants required assistance but were rescued safely and found stable by AMR paramedics. Investigators determined the fire was accidental, caused by a stovetop ignited with combustible materials.

Fire damage was limited to the unit, with smoke affecting hallway walls but no residents displaced. Fire officials reminded residents of the importance of closing doors during a fire to slow growth and protect occupants. The rapid response and suppression efforts prevented a more dangerous situation from developing.
