Apartment Fire Prompts Evacuation Assistance, No Injuries Reported

Spokane, WALocal News

Firefighters extinguished a fire at Sky View Apartments in Spokane shortly after 12:48 p. m. on May 22, 2025. Residents reported black smoke from a unit undergoing renovations, which hindered evacuation efforts for several upper-floor occupants. Engine 1, Truck 1, and Truck 4 arrived within four minutes, confirmed the smoke, and quickly extinguished the fire.

They assisted two individuals who needed help escaping, and both were later evaluated by AMR paramedics with no injuries reported. The investigation revealed that the fire was accidental, caused by a stovetop with combustible materials placed on top. Fire damage remained confined to the area of origin, with smoke affecting hallway walls. No residents were displaced, and officials reminded the community of the critical importance of closing doors during a fire to slow its growth. This incident underscores the significance of rapid response and effective fire suppression in multi-family dwellings.
