Flags Lowered for Representative Frank Chopp

Spokane Mayor Lisa Brown has directed that flags at City facilities be lowered to half-staff in remembrance of former Speaker of the House Frank Chopp, who died on March 22, 2025. Chopp, recognized as Washington's longest-serving Speaker, was known for his dedication to housing and healthcare issues. Governor Bob Ferguson has also ordered that state and U. S. flags at all state agency facilities be lowered in tribute.

A memorial service for Chopp is scheduled for June 1 at 2 p. m. at Meydenbauer Center in Bellevue, allowing the community to honor his contributions. Mayor Brown described Chopp as a longtime friend and colleague, emphasizing the void his passing leaves. Flags outside homes and businesses are encouraged to be lowered as a sign of respect.
