Spokane, WALocal News

Firefighters extinguished a fire at the Sky View Apartments in Spokane on May 22, 2025, after receiving multiple 911 calls about black smoke. Arriving within four minutes, crews confirmed smoke from a unit undergoing renovation and quickly extinguished the flames. Two residents required assistance escaping due to the heavy smoke filling the common hallway but were later evaluated by AMR paramedics and found to be stable. The fire was ruled accidental, caused by a stovetop left on with combustible materials nearby. Fortunately, no residents were displaced, and fire damage was confined to the unit.

Smoke affected multiple hallway walls, but rapid response prevented flames from extending into shared spaces. Fire officials emphasize the importance of closing doors during a fire to protect occupants and slow growth. This incident highlights the need for awareness and preparedness in multi-family buildings.
