Apartment Fire Prompts Evacuation Assistance, No Injuries Reported

Spokane, WALocal News

Firefighters extinguished a fire at the Sky View Apartments in Spokane on May 22, 2025, following multiple 911 calls about black smoke. The fire occurred in a unit undergoing renovation, with smoke filling the common hallway and preventing some residents from evacuating. Engine 1, Truck 1, and Truck 4 arrived within four minutes and successfully rescued two occupants using air-breathing masks; they were found in stable condition. The fire was determined to be accidental, caused by a stovetop igniting combustible materials placed on top. Fortunately, fire damage was limited to the area of origin, and no residents were displaced.

This incident highlights the importance of closing doors during a fire to slow smoke spread, especially in multi-family buildings. Fire suppression efforts prevented flames from extending into hallways, averting a more dangerous situation. Spokane fire officials continue to emphasize safety measures for residents in high-density housing.
