Early Morning House Fire Leaves One Critically Injured

Spokane firefighters responded to a house fire at 2:45 a. m. today, rescuing an unconscious male from the flames. Despite immediate treatment for smoke inhalation, he was transported to Sacred Heart Medical Center in critical condition. The fire, which began in a breezeway, spread quickly through the home, causing extensive damage and making it uninhabitable.

Firefighters managed to control the fire within 20 minutes, but they were unable to save a dog found inside. An adult female occupant escaped through an egress window and was unharmed. Investigators are still determining the precise cause of the fire. This incident highlights the importance of practicing fire escape plans and ensuring smoke alarms are functional on every level of a home. Local officials reiterated the need for accessible egress windows, particularly in basement bedrooms.
