Wildfire Evacuation Drill Planned for GrandviewThorpe Neighborhood

Spokane, WALocal News

Spokane will conduct a wildfire evacuation drill in the Grandview/Thorpe neighborhood on May 3, simulating emergency conditions. The exact timing will not be disclosed to mimic the unpredictability of a real emergency. This voluntary drill allows residents to practice safe and efficient evacuation procedures. Objectives include familiarizing participants with egress routes, identifying hazards, and boosting community confidence in emergencies. The City of Spokane Office of Emergency Management and other local agencies, including the Spokane Fire and Police Departments, are coordinating the event.

First responders will support the planning but will not be tested during the drill. This initiative addresses the growing concern over wildfire safety in the region, especially as climate change increases fire risks. Community engagement in emergency preparedness is crucial for effective response during real wildfire scenarios.
