Airway Heights accepting applications for pair of vacant city council seats

Spokane, WALocal News

Airway Heights is currently accepting applications for two vacant city council seats following the resignations of Deputy Mayor Veronica Messing and Councilman Kevin Richey. The city manager, Albert Tripp, announced that applications will be collected until April 8 via an online portal on the city’s website. Interviews are scheduled for April 21, with selections to fill the seats on May 5. Messing, who resigned due to her move to Cheney, reflected on her rewarding experience serving the community, while Richey will step down at the end of June as he relocates. Both former council members advocate for residents to apply, emphasizing that a commitment to serving the community is more vital than formal qualifications.

They highlighted the supportive environment of the council, encouraging participation amid the city’s rapid growth. Councilman Hank Bynaker also called on residents to engage in governance, recognizing the opportunity to influence local development. The upcoming elections this fall will allow applicants a chance to secure their positions long-term.
