Business Operations Benefit the Spokane River

Spokane, WALocal News

The City of Spokane has recognized several businesses for their exemplary wastewater management practices, vital for protecting the Spokane River. Companies like Darigold, Inc. , Jubilant HollisterStier, and Fairchild Air Force Base achieved 100% compliance with industrial wastewater discharge permits for 2024. Such compliance is crucial in preventing harmful substances from entering the wastewater system, thereby safeguarding community health and infrastructure. The city processes around 33 million gallons of wastewater daily at its Riverside Park Water Reclamation Facility, highlighting the scale of this environmental effort.

Marlene Feist, the Director of Public Works, emphasizes that excellent wastewater management requires collaboration between public systems and private users. This recognition not only honors compliant businesses but also promotes a culture of environmental stewardship within the community. By adhering to permit requirements, these organizations help prevent sewer backups and protect the integrity of the sanitary sewer system. Ultimately, their commitment ensures that the biosolids generated at the wastewater treatment plant meet all necessary requirements for land application.
