One-Day Closure of Pines Road for Rail Bridge Construction

Spokane, WALocal News

Spokane Valley has announced a one-day closure of Pines Road on April 8, 2025, from 6 a. m. to 6 p. m. to allow for critical construction work related to new rail bridges.

BNSF Railway Company will install an underground support system, which is part of a larger initiative to separate train and vehicular traffic at the intersection of Pines Road and Trent Avenue. This project aims to improve safety by preventing collisions between trains and vehicles, school buses, or pedestrians. Local traffic will be diverted through established detours to minimize disruptions, and access will remain available between certain points on the road. The anticipated reduction in wait times at the railroad crossing could save up to four hours of daily delays, enhancing the overall efficiency of travel in the area. Additionally, the project is poised to stimulate local economic growth by providing better access to approximately 170 acres of undeveloped land.

The total project budget of $48 million is fully funded, with significant contributions from federal and state grants, as well as BNSF and city funds. For further details, residents are encouraged to visit the Spokane Valley website.
