Volunteers Join Spokane Fire Department Installing Free Smoke Alarms

Spokane, WALocal News

This April, the Spokane Fire Department (SFD) is joining forces with the American Red Cross as part of the Sound the Alarm initiative to provide free smoke and carbon monoxide alarms to high-risk homes in Spokane. This event is significant as it marks the seventeenth collaboration since the Red Cross introduced its Home Fire Campaign in 2014, aiming to mitigate fire hazards in low-income neighborhoods. Community volunteers will assist in visiting 500 homes this spring, ensuring that families have the necessary alarms installed. Since the program's inception, over 8,000 households have benefited from the installation of alarms and the dissemination of vital fire safety information. The initiative not only equips homes with life-saving devices but also empowers families by educating them on how to respond effectively during a fire emergency.

Support for this program has come from various local organizations, including State Farm and Washington State University, showcasing a strong community effort. This collaboration emphasizes the importance of preparedness and safety in the event of a home fire. For those interested in learning more or participating, the Spokane Fire Department and the American Red Cross offer additional resources on their websites.
