County Approves 7.2M in Priority Investments from Opioid Settlement Funds
Spokane County has made a significant commitment to combat the opioid crisis by approving $7. 2 million in strategic investments from its Opioid Settlement Fund. This funding will enhance services for individuals struggling with opioid addiction through several key initiatives. A major portion is directed towards expanding the Spokane Regional Crisis Stabilization Center to offer 23-hour immediate crisis services and detox management. Additionally, $600,000 will support long-term housing and treatment for parents of infants with Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome.
Commissioner Mary Kuney stressed the importance of these investments in stabilizing individuals and improving care coordination. Justin Johnson, the Community Services Department Director, emphasized that these funds will fill critical gaps in the behavioral health system. The Opioid Settlement Funds, resulting from legal action against pharmaceutical companies, are expected to provide over $17 million in resources until 2038. Spokane County plans to seek proposals for these funds, ensuring they align with existing behavioral health efforts.
