Gesa Credit Union buys U.S. Pavilion title sponsorship rights for 2.6 million

Spokane, WALocal News

Gesa Credit Union has finalized a $2. 6 million title sponsorship deal for the U. S. Pavilion in Spokane, set to last for the next ten years. The Spokane Park Board approved this contract, which was celebrated with a blue light show reflecting Gesa’s branding.

Critics, including Mayor Lisa Brown, have voiced their opposition, arguing that selling naming rights to a historic landmark undermines the community's values. Gesa's Vice President of Community Impact, Brandon Allison, acknowledged these concerns and highlighted their intention to honor the pavilion's significance. Supporters of the deal believe it will facilitate better maintenance and support free public events, particularly during financially challenging times. The park board emphasized that they are not selling the pavilion but "putting it up for adoption" to ensure its care. The sponsorship also includes an additional $50,000 annually for promotional activities at the pavilion.

Ultimately, the deal seeks to enhance Riverfront Park while addressing the funding needs for its upkeep.
