On March 10, 2025, at approximately 1:20 PM, the Spokane Police Department (SPD) was alerted to a domestic violence incident when a son received a text from his mother requesting urgent help. Upon arrival, officers learned the victim had been assaulted and held at home for hours, during which her husband brandished an AR-15 style rifle and made threats of murder/suicide. The suspect, Duane Chickene, 47, displayed a firearm when the son arrived but evaded police after they attempted to negotiate with him for several hours. After failing to locate him inside the home, law enforcement secured a search warrant and found multiple firearms but no sign of Chickene. He was later captured in Montana, where he was also implicated in a vehicle theft.
