Spokane has been recognized with the silver-level Bicycle Friendly Community (BFC) award by The League of American Bicyclists, underscoring its commitment to improving cycling infrastructure and safety for residents of all ages. This achievement marks a significant upgrade from the bronze status held since 2010, showcasing the city’s dedication to creating safer streets and promoting healthier transportation choices. City Planner Colin Quinn-Hurst emphasized that this recognition reflects the hard work of Spokane's Public Works and Planning departments in prioritizing infrastructure improvements. Recent initiatives, such as the development of protected bike lanes and a new Bicycle Parking Ordinance, have bolstered the city’s biking resources. Spokane's extensive community partnerships, which support events like Bike Everywhere Month and the Mayor’s Bike to Work Day, further enhance the city’s biking culture.

The city is also looking forward to the 27 by 2027 project, aiming to establish a 27-mile network of safe and connected bike routes. This silver-level designation not only recognizes past efforts but also encourages ongoing investments in bike-friendly policies and infrastructure. Spokane joins a growing movement across the nation advocating for better biking conditions and safer streets for everyone.
