Spokane Point-In-Time Count Begins Wednesday

Spokane, WALocal News

The Spokane Regional Continuum of Care is launching its annual Point-In-Time Count from January 22 to January 29, 2025, which serves as a critical assessment of the unhoused population in Spokane County. This nationwide initiative aims to identify and provide better services for individuals and families facing homelessness. During this period, volunteers will survey and count those experiencing homelessness in various locations, including the City of Spokane and Spokane Valley. The information collected will be submitted to the U. S.

Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the Washington State Department of Commerce, offering a vital snapshot of both sheltered and unsheltered homelessness. The data obtained is instrumental in securing millions of dollars in funding for essential resources and helps guide local policy decisions. This effort not only addresses immediate needs but also informs long-term strategies in combating homelessness in the region. Community involvement is essential for the success of the PIT Count, and residents are encouraged to participate or learn more about the initiative. For further information, individuals can visit the Spokane city website dedicated to ending homelessness.
