A fire broke out in a vacant commercial building in downtown Spokane on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2024, prompting a swift response from the Spokane Fire Department at 12:22 p. m. Upon arrival, crews observed light smoke coming from the one-story structure in the 200 block of Main Street. They quickly forced entry and managed to extinguish the fire within 30 minutes, demonstrating their efficiency and training. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries, which is a relief for the community.

The Spokane Fire Department Investigation Unit is currently investigating the cause of the fire to address any potential hazards. Additionally, the department expressed gratitude to Avista and AMR for their assistance during the operation. This incident underscores the importance of fire safety in vacant properties, and the community is encouraged to remain vigilant as investigations continue.
