Adult Male Arrested after Stabbing in Southwest Spokane

Spokane, WALocal News

Spokane Police arrested 27-year-old Michael Sam for first-degree assault after a stabbing incident on December 16, 2024, in the 1600 block of West 6th Ave. The victim sustained serious, life-threatening injuries and was quickly transported to a local hospital. In response to the incident, a significant police presence was mobilized, including the SWAT team and specialized units, to effectively manage the standoff. Sam's refusal to comply with repeated commands to exit the apartment extended the situation, leading officers to use a chemical agent to facilitate his surrender. After nearly two hours, he emerged from the apartment and was taken into custody without further incident.

The police acknowledged the cooperation of local residents, which included evacuating nearby apartments and temporary road closures. This incident highlights the critical nature of swift police intervention in domestic violence cases to ensure the safety of victims and the community.
