Winter Driving Reminders and a New Law Going into Full Effect January 1st

Spokane, WALocal News

With winter approaching, the Spokane Police Department is urging residents to prioritize safety while driving in icy conditions. Drivers should reduce speed, increase following distances, and ensure that their vehicle plates, windows, and lights are free from frost or snow. Additionally, starting January 1, 2025, a new law will prohibit any cover or obstruction of license plates, requiring them to be clean and plainly visible at all times. After a grace period of warnings that began in June 2024, citations will be issued for violations, with a penalty of $237. This regulation is designed to help law enforcement quickly identify vehicles, especially in theft situations.

By promoting safe driving practices and compliance with the new law, Spokane aims to ensure a safer holiday season for everyone.
