Spokane Municipal Court Announces Thanksgiving Waste Collection Schedule Changes

Spokane, WALocal News

The Spokane Municipal Court has announced that due to the Thanksgiving holiday, garbage, curbside recycling, and yard waste pickups will be delayed by one day, starting Thursday, with Friday's service pushed to Saturday. Residents are reminded to place their carts out by 6 AM on collection days to ensure timely pickup. The court itself is a critical institution within the City of Spokane, managing an extensive workload of approximately 101,000 tickets annually, which include 7,000 criminal misdemeanors and 25,000 photo-enforcement infractions. Criminal misdemeanors can lead to penalties of up to 90 days in jail and fines, addressing offenses such as disorderly conduct and marijuana possession. On the other hand, gross misdemeanors, like DUI and domestic violence assault, can result in even harsher penalties.

This framework of law enforcement and municipal services is essential for maintaining public safety and order within the community. The changes in waste collection schedule coincide with a significant holiday period, impacting many residents. The court's role in efficiently processing legal matters ensures that justice is served and community standards are upheld.
