Stuff Green Carts with Food and Yard Waste

Spokane, WALocal News

Spokane will offer curbside food and yard waste collection during winter months, with pickups scheduled for December 1-5, January 5-9, and February 2-6. This service, initiated due to public demand, will help residents manage yard waste and promote the use of green carts for food disposal. Public Works Director Marlene Feist emphasized the importance of this service for residents looking to clean up their yards, particularly after holiday feasts. Residents are encouraged to minimize food waste by planning meals and using "to-go" containers for leftovers. The 90-gallon green carts can accept various yard waste materials, while residents must avoid using plastic bags.

The City provides incentives for extra paper bag disposal, supporting composting efforts. Interested customers can sign up for the service online or by calling the City. The Waste to Energy facility also remains available year-round for clean green waste disposal at a minimal charge.
