Stuff Green Carts with Food and Yard Waste

Spokane, WALocal News

Spokane will provide curbside food and yard waste collection during winter months, starting with December 1-5, 2025, and continuing with additional pick-ups in January and February 2026. Public Works Director Marlene Feist highlighted that this service responds to residents' requests for continued waste management beyond November. Residents are encouraged to maximize their green carts, which can hold various yard waste and food scraps, while ensuring lids remain closed and plastic bags are not included. The city promotes meal planning to reduce food waste during the holiday season, advising guests to bring containers for leftovers. Customers can dispose of food scraps and food-soiled paper in their green carts.

Those needing to dispose of excess yard waste can use paper bags for a discounted rate, while plastic bags incur higher fees. The service can be added online at Spokane311. org or by calling the city directly. This initiative aims to support sustainable waste management and community cleanliness.
