Fatal Early Morning House Fire in Northwest Spokane Claims Life of Child

Spokane, WALocal News

A house fire in Northwest Spokane early this morning claimed the life of an 11-year-old boy and left his family displaced. Firefighters from Spokane Fire Department and Spokane County Fire District 9 responded to the scene, rescuing a disoriented adult female. Heavy smoke and flames initially hampered their access to the basement, where the fire originated. Investigators concluded the fire was incendiary, ignited by the child who had been playing with combustible materials. The grandmother attempted to smother the flames before escaping and alerting others in the home.

Tragically, two dogs and a cat were also found deceased. The child’s mother received medical evaluation but was later released. The Spokane Fire Department highlights the critical need for fire safety education, urging families to utilize its Youth Fire-Setting Prevention Program.
